Singapore condemns shootings in Ottawa: MFA

SINGAPORE — The Republic has condemned the shootings that took place at Canada’s National War Memorial and at Parliament Hill.

“Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased soldier, the injured victims, as well as the Government and people of Canada during this difficult time,” said a Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson today (Oct 23), in response to media queries.

“The attacks underscore the need for countries to remain vigilant in dealing with the threat posed by terrorists. Singapore stands in solidarity with the Canadian Government in the fight against terrorism.”

Yesterday, a gunman attacked Canada’s parliament and a soldier was fatally shot at a nearby war memorial. The gunman, identified as Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, was reportedly gunned down soon after.

The shootings followed an attack on two soldiers in Quebec on Monday. A convert to Islam ran over two Canadian soldiers with his car, killing one, near Montreal.
